Kitten Season is Upon UsKitten Season is upon us. It’s the hardest time for cat rescuers/advocates in warmer climates. The births come on like a tsunami and the calls come flooding in.....All at once. Most people do nothing except feed until the strays in their world become pregnant or have their first litter. Then they frantically call rescues, pounds and others to get help. We often wonder what in the world were they thinking? Did they not see this coming? Now they are panicked and either want the cats gone or someone they know is pressuring them. Landlords start to threaten eviction and bosses threaten firing people for feeding. If you just stop feeding, they will go way. How many times have we heard that. Well they don't go away. They often starve to death. These once kind-hearted feeders can become fearful, panicked, hysterical and make rash decisions. They can get angry at the rescues who "never call them back" or won't take care of the "problem" for them. We hope that with mass education and awareness, communities will realize sooner that Trap/neuter/return is imperative and that we all have to take action immediately.
