Matilda's Story

Olive in the Wreath

Hi Marjorie.

Was so nice to hear from you and especially to see that our sweet girl was written up as one of the lucky ones.

We have been a family now for over six months and she is surely the star of it. She is the darling of the Donovan family. She genuinely enjoys people -- never skittish around visitors and loves the attention she gets from them.

Like many black cats, she is a little heat leach -- napping under the covers, stretched out in every sunbeam, asleep on her pillow in front of the fireplace, and even perched near warm floor vents. She greets my husband every night the minute he opens the door and expects playtime to begin. Then she hits me up for treats before bedtime. She is so smart, so pert.

We continue to be grateful she came into our lives when she did and are very happy we were able to give her the home she so deserved. I enclose a photo I took last Sunday before I had the chance to hang up my door wreath. As my mother used to say, she's a little monkey sometimes.

Love, Daria

Hi Marjorie.

I thought you might be wondering how Matilda is doing in her new little kingdom today. After you left yesterday she was very inquisitive, investigating every room and driven throughout the house by cat curiosity.  While watching some television later on, she curled up practically on my lap and went to sleep.

She has such a tiny little meow but clearly has plenty to say despite it.  She is very affectionate and unmistakably liked being around us.  When it was time for bed, she followed right along upstairs, hopped on the bed, and spent the whole night there between us (minus a trip downstairs for a little 2am snack) before coming back to bed again until morning.

Today I learned that she loves to nap in sunbeams and snuggle down into all the pillows on our bed.  That was the gist of her day -- napping -- but she is wide awake now and has taken up a good spot here at the top of the stairs.  She has had her dinner and visited her box (which was an immediate success; cats are so smart).  It seems as if she has always lived here.  She is clearly very comfortable in her new surroundings -- but then, why not?  Becoming a princess in the blink of an eye is a kitty fairytale come true!  ;-))

Thank you for our wonderful little gift.

Daria

Hi Marjorie.

So sorry to have missed your phone call on Saturday but Thanksgiving brought many friends and family together to our home and today is the first day back to the real world for us.

All is well on the kitty front, rest assured.  We are crazy-mad in love with our little girl and she is pretty smitten with us as well.  She is such a delight -- wildly playful one minute and curled up sound asleep on her pillow by the fire the next.  She still follows us upstairs every night and hasn't missed a single night in our bed since she arrived!

So you know, she has lifted my heart more than I could have ever imagined and has changed the very presence in our house from one of great sadness to one of new wonders.  Christmas already has a new sparkle I hadn't anticipated so I thank Marcia and you for your help in bringing us together.  Christmas came early this year to the Donovan family.

Daria

A very happy cat ...
